The only mission placed upon each and every person in our generation is receiving our righteous Moshiach. This was established by the Rebbe in his last public talk thus far, delivered at the International Conference of Shluchim (emissaries) on Shabbat Parshat Chayei Sarah 5752 (1991): "The only thing that remains in the work of shlichus (outreach) is receiving our righteous Moshiach in actual reality." These words were said by him during the Shabbat gathering in the presence of all the shluchim, and after Shabbat they were edited by him and printed in a special booklet called "Send Please By The One You Will Send," which is studied anew each year by thousands of shluchim worldwide.

The Mission[edit | edit source]

Following the Rebbe's words beginning from the month of Iyar 5751 that in our generation there is a new task to bring Moshiach in actual reality to the world and that every aspect of a Jew's life needs to be permeated with matters of Moshiach and redemption, the Rebbe announced the innovation added to the work of shlichus that its purpose is also to bring this message to the world 'to receive Moshiach' and this mission 'permeates' and is felt in all aspects of shlichus, and it is the "gateway" through which all other shlichus activities pass through and are elevated.

The Reason[edit | edit source]

In the body of the talk, the Rebbe explained the reason why specifically at this time shlichus takes on this revealed character - the events in the world showing that the entire world is ready for the true and complete redemption through our righteous Moshiach.

Completion of the Shlichus Work[edit | edit source]

Therefore, the Rebbe said, it is understood that they have already completed the regular shlichus. But since the redemption has not yet come in actuality, it's a sign that there is still work to do in shlichus.

All Details Must Be Permeated[edit | edit source]

The Rebbe explains that this doesn't mean that from now on the shluchim have nothing to do. On the contrary: all the good activities they have been doing since they went on shlichus need to be permeated with the intention of how this leads and brings to receiving our righteous Moshiach.

Practical Application[edit | edit source]

Regarding practical application, the Rebbe clarified: An announcement and notification must be made to the shluchim that their shlichus work - and that of every Jew - is expressed in receiving our righteous Moshiach, in two aspects:

  1. Every shliach must prepare himself to receive our righteous Moshiach
  2. Every shliach must prepare all the Jews in his location and city to receive our righteous Moshiach

Connection of the Work to Every Jew[edit | edit source]

The Rebbe emphasized that this task is placed upon every Jew. However, he emphasized that this applies primarily to those who have merited to carry the official title of 'shliach'.
