Trees That Currently Don't Bear Fruit Will Bear Fruit in the Future
Trees That Currently Don't Bear Fruit Will Bear Fruit in the Future This is one of the prophecies about the Redemption. In the future, during the revelation of King Moshiach, in addition to the abundant spiritual prosperity, there will also be physical abundance beyond nature, and this will be a natural phenomenon. One of the amazing things our Sages tell us is that even trees that typically don't produce fruit will produce fruit in the future[1]. Even the trunk of the tree itself will be edible.
Additionally, in the future, trees in the Land of Israel will produce baked goods and luxurious clothing.
Source of the Prophecy edit
From where do we know that the tree itself will be edible? The Torah states "fruit tree"; if it were merely teaching us that it produces fruit, it already says "produces fruit"! So why does it say "fruit tree"? Just as the fruit is edible, so too the tree will be edible. And from where do we know that even non-fruit bearing trees will produce fruit in the future? The verse teaches, "And the tree of the field will yield its fruit." — Toras Kohanim Bechukosai 26:4.
Rabban Gamliel was sitting and expounding: "The Land of Israel will in the future produce rolls and fine silk garments, as it says (Psalms 72:16), 'There will be an abundance of grain in the land.'" A certain student scoffed at him and said, "There is nothing new under the sun." He replied to him, "Come and I will show you their likeness in this world." He went out and showed him mushrooms and truffles [for rolls] and the bark covering of a young palm shoot [for fine garments]. — Shabbos 30b.
Nature of the Prophecy edit
In the time of Redemption, all human needs will be provided completely[2] – foods and clothes will grow on trees. There will be no need to wait for plants to grow as in the time of exile, nor to labor in preparing foods and clothes as required during exile (like the 39 categories of forbidden work[3]). The earth will produce ready-made food items suitable for immediate consumption, as well as clothes ready to wear.
This prophecy may occur as a result of nature being elevated through the revelation of G-dliness in the Redemption[4].
Similar Occurrences in the Past edit
Expanded topic – It Has Already Happened in the Past
- At the beginning of creation, all trees (even non-fruit bearing trees) produced fruit[5].
- At the time of the world's creation, even the trunk of the tree was supposed to be edible.
- Near Miriam's well, trees grew with fruits.
- The blossoming of flowers on Aaron's staff.
Our Deeds and Service edit
A Jewish person is compared to a tree, as it is written, "For man is a tree of the field," and the fruits are the fulfillment of mitzvos. Therefore, we should strive that our entire environment "produces fruit," meaning fulfilling mitzvos, and then we will all merit the fulfillment of the prophecy "and the tree of the field will yield its fruit... and I will lead you upright," both spiritually and physically.
Through work and perfection in the inner powers, they will merit rolls. And through the perfection of work with the encompassing powers, they will merit fine garments.

Fruits in the Holy Temple edit
In the future, the Holy One, blessed be He, will restore the (golden) fruits that were in the First Temple, "for when Solomon built the Temple, he formed in it all kinds of trees. And when the trees in the field would produce fruit, those in the Temple would also produce fruit, and they would drop their fruits."
Manna (Bread from Heaven) edit
"Light bread" is the manna that the Children of Israel had in the desert for forty years after the Exodus from Egypt, which could change to all "flavors." Through our service of studying the "flavors" (reasons) of Torah, this will be revealed completely in the future.

And if so, in the future time [to come] it must be that it will be thus that non-fruit-bearing trees will bear fruit, as our Sages of blessed memory explicitly stated (Toras Kohanim beginning of Parshas Bechukosai; and there is some difficulty from the end of Kesubos [where it states that [only] the non-fruit-bearing trees in Eretz Yisroel will bear fruit]).
