Map of the Beis HaMikdash

Map of the Beis HaMikdash is a map of the Beis HaMikdash that was proofread by the Rebbe as part of a plan to publish a book about the Beis HaMikdash in English by Kehot in the year 5704 (1944).

On the 9th of Elul 5703 (1943), the Rebbe wrote to Rabbi Menachem Zev Greenglass about the plan to publish the book: "We are now preparing for print... a book about the Beis HaMikdash with plans of the Beis, the avodah, and similar topics - also in the language of the country."

In this letter, the Rebbe wrote that if they found donors for printing the book and the calendar for children for the year 5704 (1944) - they would be able to mention their names.

This work was not printed at the time, nor was its editing completed. Rabbi Shalom Ber Levin, the chief librarian at the Library of Agudas Chassidei Chabad, published pages that remained from the editing of the book, and described the order of editing:

"From the preparation papers for printing, we are publishing this work, which was not successful to be printed at that time:

From the writings, it appears the order of work that was done: First, he instructed one of his assistants specific instructions on how to draw the illustration of the Beis HaMikdash.

Afterwards, the Rebbe reviewed the illustration and noted many corrections and comments. He also added a list of parts of the Beis, coordinated with the numbers displayed in the illustration. Later, the Rebbe changed the order of the numbers, and added and subtracted several numbers. Everything needed to be redrawn by the illustrator, and apparently it was not successful.

Besides this, he drew a general illustration of the Har HaBayis, and in this too the Rebbe added and subtracted, and commented in the margins and on a separate page.

From all of these, an organized list was compiled, according to the order that the Rebbe outlined in his notes, the notes were copied and arranged in the text or in the margins (in bold letters)."
