Mrs. Chaya Mushka (Mussia; 5640/1880 - 5702/1942) was the daughter of the Rebbe Maharash and the wife of Rabbi Moshe Hornstein.

Life History

She was born in 5640/1880 as the youngest daughter to the Rebbe Maharash and Mrs. Rivka Schneerson. When the Rebbe Maharash passed away, she was a young girl, and therefore her match was arranged by the Rebbe Rashab since the Rebbe Maharash had passed away eight years earlier, as the Rebbe Rashab writes:

"For my sister tichye, we finalized the match with our mechutan Reb Zalman Hornstein... My brother the Raza and I met the groom and tested him in his learning and found him to be good and upright, and he is God-fearing, and we hope that he will also be a vessel to receive Chassidus."

She married Rabbi Moshe Hornstein on the 10th of Elul 5652/1892, and the couple moved to live near her brothers and brother-in-law. During that period, her husband managed a wood factory. Later, they moved to Annopol in Volhynia and in 5682/1922 to Warsaw, Poland.

During the Holocaust, she was taken together with her son and daughter-in-law to the Treblinka death camp. There, on the 14th of Elul 5702/1942, she was led to the crematoria and was killed al kiddush Hashem (sanctifying God's name).
