Chabad in Michigan

In the year 5690 (1930), the Frierdiker Rebbe (Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn) visited Detroit. During that visit, approximately 500 Jews came to the train station to greet the Rebbe, and the Frierdiker Rebbe used this opportunity to inspire the crowd with divrei Torah.

In the year 5718 (1958), the Rebbe sent Rabbi Sholom Dovber Shemtov to serve as a shliach in Detroit, making it the first city to which the Rebbe sent a shliach in the United States.
