Aharon Gordon

Dr. Aharon Gordon was a baal teshuvah — a Jew who returned to observant Jewish life — and a disciple of the Maggid of Mezeritch. Before his transformation he had served as the personal physician of the Emperor of Prussia.

One day he witnessed a miraculous healing performed by the Maggid of Mezeritch. Moved deeply by what he had seen, he traveled to Mezeritch, where the Maggid greeted him with the words: "You will heal my body, and I will heal your soul."

From that point on he served as both the Maggid's personal physician and his disciple. During his time with the Maggid he also treated the Alter Rebbe.

He was a close friend of Rabbi Shimon the Physician (Asya).

Some authorities hold that his return to observance occurred at an earlier period, and that he merited spending time with the Baal Shem Tov himself.
