The Alter Rebbe authored the Tanya, the Shulchan Aruch HaRav, as well as other works of Chassidus published after his passing. Born on the 18th of Elul 5505 in the city of Liozna, in the Mogilev region of Tsarist Russia (modern-day Belarus), to Rabbi Baruch, a student of the Baal Shem Tov and a descendent of the Maharal of Prague and passed away on the 24th of Tevet 5573.
