On the 19th of Kislev 5716 the yeshiva celebrated together with five hundred students the first semicha ceremony recognized in Canada. The impressive evening was held at Young Israel with participation of all the city's Jews. The students were tested by Rabbi Hirschhorn - the chief rabbi of Montreal. The Rebbe instructed to make it a big celebration and the mayor and congressmen were invited. The Rebbe sent a special representative, Rabbi Shlomo Hecht, who made a great kiddush Hashem.

== Instructions from the Frierdiker Rebbe to the Students ==

About a week later, on 9 Cheshvan, the Frierdiker Rebbe sent a long letter to the Temimim students detailing his holy instructions for their activities in the city, as well as special instructions regarding the new yeshiva students (Igros Kodesh Rayatz Vol. 6, p. 48):

# Every Friday night, two students should review Chassidus in two Chabad shuls in the city. The same should be done between Mincha and Maariv on Shabbos, with a different student reviewing each time while the others listen.
# All students should eat both Shabbos meals together, singing Lubavitch niggunim slowly during the meals. One student should review Chassidus and they should share stories.
# Since Canada has Sunday off, they should publicly review a Chassidus maamar (can be one already said on Shabbos), specifically an 'avodah' maamar.
# To bring closer anash who have been swept away by the "many waters" to worldly life, to inspire them with new life.
# To reach out to young people in every possible way, "search thoroughly with great effort and toil" to bring them into the yeshiva.
# Visit non-Chabad shuls, give regards from our brothers overseas, share details about their suffering and awaken people to help free them through the pidyon shvuyim work under the Rebbe's direction.
# Visit rabbonim and discuss Torah with them, "put aside humility and study sugyos well, discuss them among yourselves and speak about them with the rabbonim to remove claims that in Tomchei Temimim they don't learn nigleh or that the nigleh knowledge is weak."
