Rabbi Yehuda Leib of Pistin was among the earliest disciples of the Baal Shem Tov.
About Him[edit | edit source]
In the book Toldos Yaakov Yosef[1] a dream-revelation he received is recorded:
"In the manner that the Chassid Mohary"l Postner explained the verse 'Save, O Lord, for the pious man is no more — for the faithful have vanished from among men': they came to him in a dream and said: perhaps it is the other way around — because the pious man is gone, therefore the faithful have vanished, etc. And the words are fitting."
He passed away on the 3rd of Iyar, 5505 (1745). Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Polonne eulogized him, and said among his words that "he had shielded many thousands of Israel."[2]
