Rabbi Shneur Schneersohn was the son of Rabbi Menachem Nachum (son of the Mitteler Rebbe).
When he came of age, he married in his first marriage Rebbetzin Rada Freida, daughter of the Tzemach Tzedek.
His wife passed away in her youth. Following her passing, he married Rebbetzin Golda Schneersohn, daughter of Rabbi Baruch Shalom Schneersohn.
He is buried in Lubavitch. In 5780 (2020), his grave was discovered near the Ohel of the Tzemach Tzedek and the Maharash.[1] After restoration, the grave was returned to its proper place.[2]

- Mrs. Fruma Zuckerman, wife of Rabbi Binyamin Zuckerman of Mohyliv. She was raised in the home of her grandfather the Tzemach Tzedek, following the early death of her mother, Rada Freida, daughter of the Tzemach Tzedek.
- Shneur Zalman Yitzchak Walshanik, son-in-law of Rabbi Binyamin Zuckerman
- Mrs. Chava Esther (Chaya Ata) Berlin, wife of Reb Chaim Yeshayahu Berlin of Riga, a well-known chassid and philanthropist. Both passed away without children.
- Mrs. Rivka Zlata Levin, wife of Reb Moshe Eliezer Levin.
Children from his second marriage:
- The gaon Rabbi Yehuda Leib Schneersohn, who served as rav in Velizh — father of the gaon Reb Shneur Zalman Schneersohn (Reb Zalman of Velizh).
- Reb Baruch Schneersohn.
