After the rise of the Communist regime, he managed the underground Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Berditchev. Following an informant's report, he was caught during a farbrengen on 24 Teves together with Rav Berel Gurevitch and eight other bochurim who were farbrenging with him. He married Rebbetzin Bas Sheva, daughter of Rav Yechiel Rabinowitz.

During the great escape through Lvov (in 5706), he also fled, and from there continued his journeys until he reached Brunoy, where he served as Rosh Yeshiva. His health was poor due to the many sufferings he endured in prison in Russia, and he passed away on 23 Teves 5709. He was buried in the ancient cemetery in Teverya.
