He was named in honor of his maternal grandfather, [[R' Moshe of Pozna]].

In 1776 (5536), he was appointed chief [[mashgiach]] — educational supervisor — of the [[Chadarim (in the era of the Alter Rebbe)|chadarim]] in [[Liozna]].
