The origin of the word 'bichl' is from the Yiddish language, meaning - booklet.

In the library of Agudas Chassidei Chabad in New York, there are dozens of manuscripts in the holy handwriting of our Rebbeim throughout the generations, containing deep discourses in Chassidus ('maamarim' in Chabad terminology).

There are also manuscripts of Chassidim who copied the maamarim themselves, so they would be preserved in their possession and they could study them.

Thanks to the copying of the bichlach by the Chassidim, many maamarim of our Rebbeim were preserved despite the many upheavals and fires that struck the court of our Rebbeim in Lubavitch.

When the Rebbe arrived in America, he was appointed by his father-in-law (the Rebbe Rayatz) to head the official publishing house of Chabad, Kehot, and in this capacity - he made many efforts to obtain the manuscripts, in order to edit the maamarim and bring them to print.

During the years of his leadership, many Chassidim brought the Rebbe Chassidic manuscripts in their possession as gifts, such as President Zalman Shazar, Rabbi Avraham Eliyahu Axelrod, and others.

In Adar I 5782 (2022), the Library published thousands of manuscripts in its possession, including bichlach of our Rebbeim.
