Due to the changes that will occur in the days of Moshiach, '''the Halacha in the days of Moshiach''' will change. The notable change will be the determination of Halacha according to Beis Shammai, not Beis Hillel. == Nullification of Mitzvos == Expanded topic โ '''Mitzvos are nullified in the future to come''' In the Gemara, the Amoraim disagree whether "Mitzvos will be nullified in the future to come." According to Rabbi Yochanan, the Mitzvos will be nullified in the future to come, and according to Rav Yanai, they will not. Among Halachic authorities, Rabbi Yochanan's view that Mitzvos will be nullified in the future was accepted. Nevertheless, many great Jewish scholars struggled with its explanation and its reconciliation with the fundamental principle that the Torah and Mitzvos are never nullified, as well as with defining the exact time and type for the nullification of Mitzvos. Chassidic teachings also address this issue and explain that the Mitzvos in their essence are never nullified. There are only different layers in the meaning of the nullification of Mitzvos, or a relative nullification in the level of G-dliness drawn down through the Mitzvos, or the nullification of the command but not the nullification of the Mitzvah itself. == Determination of Halacha == In the days of Moshiach, Halacha will be decided according to Beis Shammai, who generally tend to be stringent, and not according to Beis Hillel, who tend to be lenient. This differs from the time of exile when Halacha is determined according to Beis Hillel. In the writings of the Arizal, it is written that the reason for this is because the root of the souls of Beis Shammai is from the attribute of Gevurah (strength/severity) and Beis Hillel is from the attribute of Chesed (kindness). Since in exile, kindness prevails over severity, Halacha was decided according to Beis Hillel. However, in the future to come, when severity will prevail over kindness, Halacha will be decided according to Beis Shammai. Another reason mentioned in Chassidic writings is that since the approach of Beis Shammai is above the world, therefore in the time of exile, because the world cannot contain the approach of Beis Shammai, the Halacha is according to Beis Hillel. However, in the days of Moshiach, when the world will change, the Halacha will be according to Beis Shammai. Some argue that in the days of Moshiach, Halacha will be determined according to Beis Shammai only in cases where they are strict, and not in every situation. The Rebbe, in one of his talks, discussed whether when Moshiach comes during Chanukah, the Halacha will immediately change to follow Beis Shammai, requiring lighting according to Beis Shammai's opinion, or not. The Rebbe brought that in the first period of the days of Moshiach, the Halacha will be according to Beis Shammai, and in the second period of the days of Moshiach, the Halacha will be according to both Beis Shammai and Beis Hillel together, which will be possible through the power of "impossibility of the impossible." In other places, it is brought that in the future to come, Halacha will be determined according to Rabbi Meir and Rashbi, unlike during the time of exile when the Halacha is not according to them. == Psak Halacha by Moshe Rabbeinu == The Gemara states that Moshe Rabbeinu was in place of the Sanhedrin in his generation, and he could rule on halacha by himself. The commentators are divided on whether in the days of Moshiach, when Moshe Rabbeinu will be resurrected, he will be able to rule on halacha without the assistance of the Sanhedrin. The Rebbe, in a private audience with Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu, noted that Moshe Rabbeinu will only be able to rule regarding laws that are "mipi hashmuah" (from oral tradition), but for matters that are derived "min hamidot shehatorah nidreshet bahen" (through the hermeneutical principles by which the Torah is interpreted), the Sanhedrin will be the deciding authority. == The Pig Will Become Kosher in the Future == '''Expanded topic โ The Pig Will Become Kosher''' One of the future prophecies mentioned by Chazal is that "the pig will become kosher in the future." The great Torah scholars and commentators of Chazal struggled to explain what will transpire, with some interpreting it literally while others explained it as referring to the spiritual dimension. Chassidus explains that the klipah (spiritual shell) of the pig in the world of klipot serves as the source of vitality for all klipot, and in the future this source will be nullified and purified. The pig also symbolizes the nature of the final exile, the exile of Edom. The service of the Jewish people in exile is to refine this klipah, to purify and cleanse it. == See Also == * Nullification of Holidays in the Future Era * Prayer in the Days of Moshiach * Nullification of Fast Days in the Future Era == For Further Reading == * [[Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Baruch Gerlitzky|Avraham Baruch Yitzchak Gerlitzky]], '''Days of Moshiach in Halacha''' - Studies and clarifications on the topics of Redemption and the Days of Moshiach according to Halacha, 5768 (2008).
