== The Ma'alot Tragedy == After the terrorist attack in Ma'alot on the 23rd of Iyar 5734, during which a group of Palestinians took control of schoolchildren from Tzfas as hostages and murdered them following a failed IDF rescue attempt, the Rebbe instructed to check the mezuzos in the educational institution in Tzfas. It was discovered that the number of posul mezuzos found matched the number of casualties, and when additional casualties were reported, the Rebbe requested another check, revealing more posul mezuzos matching the number of victims in the attack. The Rebbe addressed this event and called for checking mezuzos and their kashrus in connection with the awakening of Mivtza Mezuzah: "I was passionately involved in Mivtza Mezuzah. I was pushed and given no rest from demanding and speaking about mezuzah, I myself don't know why, etc., and now we see how this entire event was connected to the mitzvah of mezuzah."
