Editing Beis moshiach (magazine)

Beis Moshiach is a worldwide Chabad weekly magazine dedicated to spreading the message of Geulah. It is distributed in thousands of copies worldwide through direct mailing to subscribers and stores globally. It is published by the World Chabad Center for Greeting Moshiach.

The magazine and its supplements feature a variety of articles, interviews, stories, essays, news, and exclusive content including first-time publications of holy letters, documents, and manuscripts from Chabad Rebbes. Its main purpose (as defined by the publisher) is to fulfill the singular essential shlichus of "preparing the world to greet Moshiach Tzidkeinu" (in the Rebbe's words). The weekly is published in two editions - Hebrew and English, with each edition having its own editorial staff and writers. The magazine includes supplements for women and children, as well as a unique supplement - "HaTomim" focusing on the world of Chabad yeshiva students.

Beis Moshiach serves as an important publicity platform for the Rebbe's shluchim and Chabad institutions worldwide.

The magazine works in cooperation with Chabad Info website, where headlines and article excerpts are published weekly, giving the magazine's content additional exposure.

= History and Publication =
The magazine began publication in Menachem Av 5754 (1994), founded by Rabbi Zalman Hertzel, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hendel, and Rabbi Shlomo Halperin, with encouragement from Chabad rabbonim and askanim in Eretz Hakodesh, United States, and elsewhere. Its purpose was defined in its subtitle: "Beis Moshiach Weekly - World Weekly for Spreading the Message of Geulah."

In the early period of publication, Rabbi Amos Cohen, Rabbi Shalom Pelman, Rabbi Aryeh Baruch Bloch, and Rabbi Shimshon Goldstein were involved in editing and printing. Later and until today: Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hendel, Rabbi Yaakov Chazan, Rabbi Menachem Ziegelboim, and Rabbi Avraham Rainitz.

The magazine was established in response to changes in the veteran Kfar Chabad weekly: the removal of "Yechi" from the cover page (contrary to the original psak din of the Vaad Rabbanei Chabad). The first issues were similar in format to Beis Chayeinu issues published between 5749-5752, containing reports about happenings in 770.

Gradually, Beis Moshiach developed into a publication filled with articles, interviews, and first-class exclusive content with popular supplements.

In 5756 (1996), following the generous donation of Chassidic philanthropist Rabbi Rachamim Antian, the magazine became financially established. During this time, the editorial staff also changed.

In subsequent years, the magazine developed and established itself both in content and with an editorial staff led by the finest Chabad writers, editors, and researchers.

= Hebrew Beis Moshiach Weekly =
Currently, the magazine is published by the World Chabad Center for Greeting Moshiach, a Chabad organization headquartered in Crown Heights under Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hendel's leadership.

The editorial team includes prominent Chabad figures considered among the foremost Chabad writers and researchers, with extensive experience in editing, publishing, writing, and research:

= Support from Chabad Rabbonim and Mashpiim =
Beis Moshiach is published in Crown Heights, managed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hendel, and receives support from the Crown Heights Beis Din, members of the Chabad Rabbinic Court in Eretz Hakodesh, rabbonim, shluchim, and mashpiim worldwide.

Among the main supporters of Beis Moshiach was Rabbi Yehuda Kalman Marlow z"l, Av Beis Din and Rav of Crown Heights, and one of Chabad's most prominent rabbonim worldwide, whom the Rebbe called 'Knight of Knights' and 'Man of Halacha'. Rabbi Marlow was the rabbinical and halachic authority for Beis Moshiach from its founding until his passing in 5760 (2000). He also published a halachic column in Beis Moshiach.

In following years, Rabbi Aharon Yaakov Schwei z"l and Rabbi Yosef Yeshaya Braun shlita of the Crown Heights Beis Din continued in this role.

= The Chief Rabbi of Israel =
In an interview with Beis Moshiach, the Chief Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Kalman Bar shlita revealed that he was a subscriber to Beis Moshiach weekly for a long period: "I know the weekly very well, I was subscribed to it for a long time. Each time I delighted anew in its Chassidic content."

= Publication for Shluchim =
The Rebbe's shluchim and Chabad institutions worldwide publish in Beis Moshiach news about seasonal, regular, and special activities, as well as advertisements.

Many Chabad houses and Chabad institutions were first publicized in Beis Moshiach, whether in magazine articles or news items, all free of charge.

Many shluchim subscribe to the magazine which reaches every corner of the world.

An example of shluchim's appreciation can be found in a double-page advertisement in Beis Moshiach issue 103, where hundreds of shluchim congratulated the Beis Moshiach team on publishing over 100 issues filled with Chassidus and strengthening faith in the imminent Geulah.

= Beis Moshiach in English =
The English edition is published as a separate magazine - 64 pages, and is sent to Hebrew edition subscribers upon request. The English edition also has its own independent subscription and sales system, distributing thousands of copies weekly in the United States, Eretz Yisroel, and worldwide.

= Development of the English Edition =
For about twenty years, the English edition was published within the Hebrew magazine.

In 5779 (2019), the English newspaper began publishing in an independent format, full color and in a new size. A special editorial team was established under Rabbi Shraga Crombie's leadership, which led to hundreds of percent growth in subscription numbers.

A periodic supplement for Temimim - published by World Achnus Temimim Haolami and World Chabad Center for Greeting Moshiach. Published in different editions in Hebrew and English.

= HaTomim Hebrew Edition =
Published regularly during 5761-5764, and later published intermittently. Since Nissan 5775, it began publishing again until 5778. In subsequent years, it has been published periodically. In 5783, "HaTomim" came under full management of Beis Moshiach editorial staff and continues to be published in a similar but different format. Issue 54 was published as a supplement to Beis Moshiach Sukkos 5785 - 1431 - and distributed free to thousands of Anash and Temimim guests and locals in Beis Chayeinu during Tishrei 5785.

= HaTomim English Edition =
Starting from Tishrei 5781, HaTomim has also been published in English.

Beis Moshiach Weekly has become over the years a central platform for first publication of teachings and letters of Lubavitcher Rebbeim. Since the newspaper began publishing and throughout the years, Chassidic discourses, sichos, holy letters and many documents are published for the first time, all adding important layers to Chabad teachings overall. In the 5780s, a new column of first-publication letters was opened - each issue publishes a sequence of the Rebbe MH"M's holy letters in first publication.
