Editing And He Will Fight The Wars of Hashem

This is the final halachic sign by which we will know that indeed that king who will arise from the house of David - "this person is presumed to be Moshiach."

There are nations that harass the Jewish people and do not allow them to engage in Torah and mitzvos, which is the main aspect of exile - obstacles and hindrances to observing the Torah, and Melech HaMoshiach fights against them and allows Israel to engage in Torah and mitzvos properly.

These wars are called the wars of Hashem, as it says regarding Dovid, "For my master fights the wars of Hashem," and according to the interpretation of the verse, his war to defend the Jewish people is called Hashem's war because whoever touches them is like touching the apple of His eye.

However, in one of the sichos, the Rebbe presents the possibility that when the redemption comes in a manner of "they merited," there will be no need for this aspect of "he will fight the wars of Hashem."

== The Wars of Melech HaMoshiach ==
It is explained that the war of Melech HaMoshiach is not with weapons but with words of peace, "And he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked," and in the Rebbe's words: "Specifically through a war of peace," "The war through learning Torah and fulfilling its mitzvos."

As part of this war to "fill the world with righteousness," the Rebbe announced about 40 years ago that the Moshiach of the generation is fighting "the wars of Hashem," and elaborates that this includes the war "to eliminate the rule of wickedness from the earth," and explained that the victory of this war would be when tens of thousands and tens of thousands of Jews would leave the country of Russia.

The Rebbe determined that "we see in actuality that 'he will fight the wars of Hashem' has already been accomplished, and in several matters he is already victorious."

These victories can be seen plainly: For nearly two thousand years that the Jewish people were in exile, they were unable to fulfill Torah and mitzvos, and in every generation oppressors stood against them. Even in the last generation, several million Jews were behind the Iron Curtain under the Communist tyrant's rule without the possibility of minimal Torah and mitzvos observance.

In recent years, a miraculous thing happened that had no precedent in all of history - the Soviet superpower dismantled itself without a single shot fired, and now the Jewish people everywhere in the world are completely free to fulfill Torah and mitzvos without any restrictions from the nations of the world! This is the victory of Melech HaMoshiach.

In this matter, Melech HaMoshiach also fights a positive war - in spreading the seven Noahide laws among the nations of the world, and in educating the children of the nations of the world on the foundation of belief in the Creator and Director of the world. He has created a global revolution in these areas, as leaders of the United States and other countries around the world have called for the observance of the seven Noahide laws, through legislation for a 'moment of silence' and contemplation about the Creator of the world in public schools in the United States, and more.

== The Completeness of Torah ==
Another aspect of Moshiach's wars, as ruled by the Rambam, is that the purpose of the king is: "to elevate the true religion and to fill the world with righteousness and to break the arm of the wicked and to fight the wars of Hashem." The Rebbe explains that "the wars of Hashem" are about those three matters that the Rambam enumerates.

The war of Melech HaMoshiach in our generation throughout the years "to elevate the true religion" is in all three areas of completeness: The Rebbe waged a mighty war for "the completeness of Torah," standing firmly against any breach in the wall of religion. Against the compromising spirit that adhered to various circles in Judaism, and against the defensive approach of Jews against the idol of science.

He conducted a long and stubborn struggle against the sailing of Israeli ships on Shabbos, and against many other details in the areas of Torah and mitzvos observance by Jews wherever they are.

The Rebbe also conducts a positive war for the completeness of Torah, as he spreads the ten holy campaigns, sends shluchim to spread Torah and Judaism in every Jewish place in the world, and acts in every possible way to strengthen Judaism and spread it individually and collectively.

== The War for the Completeness of the People ==
The Rebbe waged a mighty war for "the completeness of the people," fighting like a lion against the decree of the "Who is a Jew" law, which permits "conversion" not necessarily according to Jewish halacha, conversion that is not authentic.

This is a dangerous breach that undermines the continuity of the Jewish people according to the halachic tradition throughout the generations. This is a struggle for the most basic thing - for the very Jewish identity - the completeness of the Jewish people.

This struggle is expressed throughout the world, in the war against missionaries and various cults, and a broad war against the terrible phenomenon of assimilation that threatens Jewish identity in our generation. The Rebbe activates all influence in all ways, preventing hundreds of cases of marriages between Jews and - to distinguish - non-Jews G-d forbid.

== The War for the Integrity of the Land ==

His struggle for "Shleimus Ha'aretz" is well known, a battle that spans decades of outcry, explaining that according to halacha it is forbidden to surrender even a single inch of the Land of Israel to gentiles, on grounds of pikuach nefesh (preservation of life). Furthermore, those sitting in government have neither the power nor the authority to surrender these territories that belong to each and every Jew wherever they may be. Hashem returned these lands to our hands through open miracles (during the War of Independence and the Six-Day War) - surrendering them constitutes disrespect for Hashem's gift, which is a chilul Hashem (desecration of God's name) and a desecration of the holiness of the Land.

The Rebbe warned that even discussions about autonomy are forbidden and would eventually lead to the actual surrender of parts of the Land of Israel. The Rebbe cautioned that if a government were to move in this direction - he himself would be the first to fight with full force and all available means against it, so that the government would dissolve. Indeed, since then until today, every prime minister who spoke about surrendering parts of the Land of Israel did not complete their term!
