'''Nigun Lecha Dodi''' is a melody attributed to the Alter Rebbe, which is sung with the words of the Shabbat liturgical poem "Lecha Dodi" (composed by the Kabbalist Rabbi Shlomo Alkabetz who was a resident of the city of Tzfat. Rabbi Shlomo also signed his name in the first letters of the stanzas of the poem). The Rebbe Rashab would customarily sing this melody with devotion during the first verse of the Shema prayer on weekdays. This melody has a different version (and apparently a more precise one) for the verse '''"Likrat Shabbat"''' in the "Lecha Dodi" poem. This version was recorded from the Chassid Rabbi Peretz Motzkin as he received it from the elder Chassidim of the previous generation and was printed in Sefer HaNigunim Volume 2 (Part 1). This melody is Nigun 7 in Sefer HaNigunim (the additional version is Nigun 177). == Lyrics of the Nigun == <blockquote>'''Lecha dodi likrat kallah''' '''Pnei Shabbat nekabelah''' '''Sha'''mor vezachor bedibur echad Hishmi'anu El hameyuchad Hashem echad ushmo echad Leshem uletiferet velitehillah '''Li'''krat Shabbat lechu venelcha Ki hi mekor haberachah Merosh mikedem nesuchah Sof ma'aseh bemachashavah techilah '''Mi'''kdash melech ir meluchah Kumi tze'i mitoch hahafechah Rav lach shevet be'emek habachah Vehu yachamol alayich chemlah '''Hi'''tna'ari me'afar kumi Livshi bigdei tifartaich ami Al yad ben Yishai beit haLachmi Karvah el nafshi ge'alah '''Hi'''toreri hitoreri Ki va orech kumi ori Uri uri shir daberi Kevod Hashem alayich niglah '''Lo''' tevoshi velo tikalmi Mah tishtochachi umah tehemi Bach yechesu aniyei ami Venivnetah ir al tilah '''Ve'''hayu limshisah shosayich Verachaku kol mevaleayich Yasis alayich Elokayich Kimsos chatan al kallah '''Ya'''min usmol tifrotzi Ve'et Hashem ta'aritzi Al yad ish ben Partzi Venismechah venagilah Bo'i veshalom ateret ba'alah Gam berinah (besimchah) uvetzoholah Toch emunei am segulah Bo'i kallah bo'i kallah (Toch emunei am segulah Bo'i kallah Shabbat malketa)</blockquote> == External Links == * To listen to the nigun on the Heichal Negina website * '''To listen to the nigun''' performed by the musician Rabbi David Horowitz * To listen to the nigun arranged by Rabbi Elaor Velner (the link is not active, 2nd of Shevat 5785)
