In the early summer of 5661, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Havlin was sent by The Rebbe Rashab to lead the Tomchei Temimim Horodisz yeshiva. This yeshiva was a branch of Central Yeshiva in Lubavitch, and was intended for young men who needed individual supervision, and were not yet worthy of entering the Lubavitcher yeshiva. The yeshiva existed for ten years, until the end of 1911. In a note that is sharp in its style that the Rebbe sent to Rabbi Havlin during the years of the yeshiva's existence, he argues against him that "you have risen to the level of the superiors and the nobles", and that he spends his time in gatherings and the like, instead of being careful to supervise the young men - "And you do not supervise the lower ones".
